NEWSOM1Which depending on whom you ask could be a good or a bad thing. According to budget reports released this week, California Gov.  Gavin Newsom plans to ask taxpayers in the state for taxpayer produced funds to pay for $750k worth of rent for the homeless.  California is one of the largest states in America struggling with a significant and increasing homelessness problem.

The Associated Press is reporting that the funds would come from taxpayers; private donations, and the private sector.    The funds would be used to address mental health and affordable housing in regards to the homeless — two of the largest factors in the state’s crippling crisis.

“Californians are demanding that all levels of government— federal, state and local— do more to get people off the streets and into services— whether that’s emergency housing, mental health services, substance abuse treatment or all of the above,” Newsom said in a statement.
