Chinese authorities are so badly abusing their powers, it literally apparently came no shock to locals that authorities were using apps to spy on people. Several investigations (via this link) turned up an alarming feat in China, that, authorities are apparently using fake profiles on apps to harness information about Muslim citizens.

According to Human Rights Watchhttps://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/meghara/ijop-china-uighur-muslim-app, they along with several other teams reportedly reverse engineered the app in question. What they discovered next, in fact, seems like something straight out of a dystopian novel. Officials. claimed that upon reverse engineering the app, it was discovered that the app is actually a huge database containing information about people.

It even marks someone if the authorities have convened that you may be a threat to Chinese society. Dubbd the “IJOP” the app pretty much tracks the every move of more than 1million people country-wide. Among those are mostly ethnic or deeply under-served Muslim populations and factions of their religion.

The app has so much spying power it: tracks packages, knows when you use a phone that isn’t yours, and weirdly knows when you don’t ask permission for stuff where required.
