Starting next year. In what we’ve found to be the first move it’s kind anywhere in the world, Luxembourg, has announced that next year sweeping changes are coming.

The Office of the Prime Minister announced that public transit will become free next year. As of now, riders pay a flat fee of $2.50 for their four hour destination. But, the PM, feels that such should be free — and will be paid for by removing otherwise known subsidies and tax breaks.

The move is expected to have significant improvements to the country’s congested transit system.
