Al Franken has set a date for his Senate departure

According to the office of Al Franken, the Minnesota Senator will reportedly leave office  on 2 January.  According to his office, the resignation aligns with the previous announcement that he would lave in early January.   The news comes as apparent concerns surfaced that he “would attempt to reverse his resignation’.

Lt. Gov Tina Smith will replace Franken, and, be sworn in 24 hours later.  Per Smith ‘s team, she, plans to officially run for the seat in 2018.
