Bad news for literature lovers today. The Daily News has confirmed that 83-year-old author Jean Stein has committed suicide. Â New York police say that the famed author jumped from the 15th floor of a Manhattan building, bringing a once fabulous life to an end.
Stein, had reportedly suffered from severe depression in recent weeks that family say ultimately led to her choice to end her life.
An autopsy  is reportedly being performed.
