Turkey11ISTANBUL —  Troubling news as the military takeover in Turkey continues to unfold.   We have learned that social media sites across the spectrum, including a large number of western world media outlets, have gone dark in the wake of the political crises.   Twitter, denied that it had been fully blocked, although Twitter accounts monitoring such situations in Turkey reported that they had been blocked.

The Daily News has received at least 4 different reports from various Turkish readers via e-mail and Whatsapp indicating that we are among those that have been blacked out by the Turkish government as the coup continues. The Daily News has confirmed  the social media blackout, but, has been unable to confirm the blackout of our own newspaper.
