The Name of the Rose author, 84, dies

UmbertoLa Republica has reportedly confirmed that blockbuster author  Umberto Eco, 84, who was perhaps best known for his major blockbuster novel The Name of the Rose in 1980 — has passed away. Per additional reports in the New York Daily News, Eco,  was an “extraordinary example of intellectualism within Europe” as an individual who was virtually unknown until much later in life.
