About Face: Deeply unpopular tax cuts for the rich to be scrapped, as Truss and gang scramble to shore up support as sluggish plans rain on governments parade

Last updated on 2022-10-04

Liz Truss’s wildly unpopular tax plan for the rich has been scrapped this week as the conservative party races to shore up support for its widely unpopular policies altogether. According to an announcement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the plan to scrap the 45p income tax rate for the nation’s top earners is no more. The move comes after cross-aisle political backlash coupled with backlash from pretty much all of the nation over the plan considering rich Britons don’t need help.

Initially, the plan was to scrap taxes on 150,000 pounds or more ($167,000) a year. The AP reports that other policies in the same plan will remain despite much controversy remaining around many of them.
